Promoting personal growth and providing tools for change
Do you feel like you are treading water or trying to please others while struggling with feelings of low mood, sadness or loss? Maybe a crisis in your life has thrown you into a tailspin or left you with no sense of purpose or direction. Perhaps you feel disconnected in your relationships or are experiencing feelings of regret over the past. Maybe you are feeling anxious about your future.
Whatever challenges you face you are not alone. Often reaching out for support is the hardest step to take. At Maple Tree Counselling, we focus on supporting individuals navigating the complexities of life, whatever they are, and we are here to help you on your journey to make positive lasting change.
We chose the Maple Tree as we believe trees relate to therapy in the following ways; roots are the foundations and the things in life you want to hold on to; the trunk is your skills, strengths, and values; branches are your hopes and dreams. The Maple Tree itself symbolises strength, endurance and protection, which we offer you in therapy.
Maple Tree Counselling was founded by Zoë Williams and Angela Whitney. We are qualified counsellors and members of the BACP and NCPS. We use an integrative person-centred approach in our counselling, which allows you to pause and focus on yourself. It’s a confidential, non-judgemental environment where we work together, usually every week, to explore the challenges you’re facing. We help you to find your own answers, so you can gain clarity, find new perspectives, and develop tools to cope more effectively.
Here are some of the unique benefits:
Person-centred counselling is a flexible form of therapy, because of its individualistic approach. Therefore, it’s used to treat several issues or conditions, including but not limited to:
Is counselling right for me?
Feeling unsure about who can help and support you, can feel daunting. Maybe you don't know where to start looking or feel uncertain about what you are facing or what you want. You are not alone - taking the first step is often the hardest decision. We go at your pace in a safe and non-judgemental space. And even if it feels difficult to express yourself, we can work creatively to find a way through.
Online counselling or in-person sessions?
Maple Tree Counselling is based in the centre of Wokingham town centre with parking nearby. Near to Reading, Bracknell, Binfield, Ascot, Sandhurst, Crowthorne and M4. If you live too far away to visit us in-person, online counselling sessions are a convenient and accessible way to get support from wherever you feel most comfortable. It’s just as effective as in-person therapy, so it’s a great option if you want flexibility, and need to save travel time. Our online sessions take place via Teams, and we email you the link weekly for you to access the online therapy room.
How important is the relationship between a counsellor and a client?
The relationship between a counsellor and a client is one of the most important aspects of therapy. Research shows that feeling understood, supported, and safe with your counsellor is often the key to making progress. So we build up trust that enables you to talk openly and freely without judgement.
Are our sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is fundamental to building our relationship and to our work together. There are a couple of exceptions to the rule where information within our sessions might need to be shared. But we will always discuss any disclosure to others with you beforehand and we will try to jointly agree on a way forward.
How many sessions do I need and how often?
Weekly sessions are the most effective, although fortnightly or less regular appointments are also available. We usually keep the same time and day each week, which guarantees our availability to you. We can agree on a set number of sessions upfront or you can undergo open-ended counselling. We will go at your own pace, and we regularly review your progress and your desire to continue our work together.
In-person counselling sessions take place at a therapy clinic based in Wokingham town centre, where parking is available. Near to Reading, Bracknell, Binfield, Ascot, Sandhurst and Crowthorne.
Online sessions are available from anywhere in the UK via Teams.
We offer a fixed number or open-ended online or in-person counselling sessions for individuals aged 18 + which last 50-minutes and cost £55.00. Discounts available for student counsellors. Counselling in French is also offered.
Availability: Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 7.00 pm
Payment: Please pay 24 hours before your session via bank transfer or payment in cash can be made on the day.
Cancellation: Please provide a minimum of 24 hours' notice if you cannot make your appointment otherwise you may be charged in full.
We will get back to you within 24 hours to arrange a convenient time for an initial informal 20-minute FREE consultation. This allows us to briefly discuss the challenges or difficulties you might be facing and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions or discuss any concerns about the therapeutic process.
Alternatively, you are welcome to provide a brief summary of what you are looking for on the booking form and request a session immediately without consultation.
If your counselling appointment is in-person, our therapy room is in the centre of Wokingham town. If you have booked an online session, we email a secure Teams link for you to access your session each week.
In our first session we will go through the client contract agreement, which details how we agree to work together.
