Using a person-centred relational approach, we prioritise building a strong therapeutic relationship with you and work collaboratively with you to identify what you need. As integrative counsellors, we also draw upon other therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy and Transactional Analysis. Together, we can reflect, build understanding, and think about different ways of responding to life’s challenges, helping you gain clarity, autonomy, and a deeper sense of well-being.
This therapeutic approach comes under the umbrella of Humanistic Therapy and is also known as Client-Centred therapy. We work with you to explore and understand your self-perception. We will gently challenge any negative thinking patterns or bad habits that hinder growth. Person-centred therapy centres around the belief that we all contain untapped potential. Therapy therefore focuses on maximising your ability to find solutions, with our support.
We offer:
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps you to change some of these to better manage your problems. A key part of this is identifying the negative thinking patterns that you may feel trapped in, helping you to break free from them and feel better.
The aim of CBT is that through the sessions, homework and practice you will find out what skills and techniques help you to have a better quality of life.
Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand how your current feelings and behaviour are shaped by your past experiences and your unconscious mind and impulses.
The relationship with your therapist is key to this therapeutic approach. Having an accepting and trusting relationship with them encourages you to talk freely and openly about topics like your childhood and your past relationships. This can help you understand what you’re feeling now, why you behave in a certain way and how this affects your current relationships. There may be things in your unconscious that you’re not aware of and are painful or keeping you stuck - a psychodynamic therapist will help you look for these patterns and understand them to give you the choice to break free from them.
Transactional analysis (TA) is designed to promote personal growth and change. TA therapy is based on the theory that each person has three ‘ego-states’: parent, adult and child. These are used, along with other key transactional analysis concepts, tools and models, to analyse how individuals communicate and to identify what changes might lead to better outcomes.
The goal of TA therapy is to help clients regain autonomy over their lives, which in TA means awareness, spontaneity and intimacy. It is a talking therapy, and sessions are designed to explore an individual's personality and how this has been shaped by experience - particularly those stemming from childhood. Increased awareness of oneself enables clients to decide what they want to change about their lives and how they want to do it.
